Foul trouble
England coach Eddie Jones has revealed that he is no closer to finding a new England manager after he was called in to explain why his side failed to win at Germany in the World Cup final.
Scotland won 2-1 over Germany but after being told they did not need to beat Portugal to achieve a sixth win of the tournament, they went on to draw their quarter-final opponents Italy.
That made it a fourth successive World Cup final where England failed to win.
However Jones was forced to answer questions from journalists about why his team failed to qualify for the next World Cup.
And he said: "It's a question we've been having for a few months. That was just our mentality.
"We knew the game was going to be a difficult one. We were in it with England, we were in it with the Germans and we were in it with Portugal.
"When we don't win, well you're asking the question.
"Our mentality has changed quite dramatically on this occasion and it has forced us to do some pretty radical changes. I don't think I can go into the next stage for another quarter.
"What has to change is people's expectations.
"We just had to make things happen from start to finish. You win the FA Cup, you're in the Champions League, you win the Europa League and you're out in front of Spain on penalties and winning the League Cup.
"What I will say is that, once we win these four things, then we'll take the next step. In a few months' time we'll be back in that World Cup final.
"And then it's hard to go on and on as it is."
Jones' comments came after the England midfielder Jack Rodwell was ruled out for the Champions League qualifier against Zenit St Petersburg after suffering a knee ligament injury.
However, he has continued to appear on the sidelines with a knee issue and has insisted he will play on for a number of weeks.
"I feel good. I'm not going to say anything more about it," he told the club website. "I am so pleased about how my knee's looking.
"I'm doing everything I can to get it back from now until next week."
